Lindbergh's Homecoming was unique in its nature. Schools needed to quickly cooperate to turn around a situation that left the Homecoming celebrants
with no traditional Homecoming football game.
Instead of canceling festivities, Athletic Director Jeff Stuart got on the phone with Mount Rainier High School, asking them to move their home Girls Soccer Game to Lindbergh. They agreed, and the traditional halftime festivities could finally go on. It was a Homecoming Game with a twist that all would
remember.
King and Queen
Homecoming Queen, Jade Kruusi, is the soccer goalie for the Girls' Varsity team and the King, Zach Nielsen, is the football co-captain.
Homecoming Traditions
The Monday-Friday of homecoming week is referred to as Spirit Week. Each day is designated a theme, for example, blast from the past or twin day.
The day of Lindbergh's homecoming assembly, planned by school student leadership, the entire school dresses in school colors.
"This week provides the opportunity for students to show off their school spirit and get 'pumped' for the game," said Christina Allen, Lindbergh's Leadership Advisor.
Parade Day
Lindbergh's Homecoming Parade takes place the day of game. To be able to participate, students would have to complete an application packet and be approved by administration. All classes (freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors), clubs or sports are encouraged to participate.
Decorating begins in the schools upper parking lot promptly at 4pm and concludes at 5:30pm.
At this time, judging begins.
The winning vehicle leads the parade to the stadium. At 6pm the parade begins the journey to the stadium, accompanied by several Renton Police officers in their cruisers and on motorcycles.
"It is quite a site," said Allen.
The Game
Spirits were high as Lindbergh ended the first half ahead, 3-0. Mount Rainier came from behind in the second half while Lindbergh went scoreless.
The game ended in a 3-3 tie.
