Lindbergh High School's Leadership Students
to 'Walk & Knock' for Food this Saturday
Lindbergh students Lilian Tran, Tien Nguyen-Le, Alex Tokiyeda and Kim Villaflor are preparing
for their upcoming food drive. They created collection boxes and signs to promote the drive over the past two weeks.
On Saturday, December 12, Lindbergh High School's Leadership class will participate in a "Walk and Knock" Food Drive in local neighborhoods. Fairwood citizens are encouraged to gather up non-perishables to support a worthwhile cause for local neighbors in need.
From 10 am-1 pm, 27 Lindbergh student leaders will brave the cold to knock on your door. Non-perishable food donations will be used to replenish the Salvation Army's Renton Food Bank. The success of this effort depends on a collaborative effort between these dedicated students and a giving Fairwood Community.
Drop-Off Option Available at Three Locations
If students are unable reach your home during this time or if you are out running errands, you still can participate in the Food Drive by dropping off your non-perishable food donations at three locations between 10 am to noon on Saturday. Locations include:
āIām glad that we have been able to plan an event that brings the class and the community together and ultimately help those in need,ā said Senior Alex Tokiyeda, 17, Leadership participant and Senior Class Vice-President.
Captain Terry Masango of the Salvation Army emphasized that the need is great, given the current economic challenges.
"Most of the families that are seeking food have children. Parents have recently lost jobs due to the harsh economic conditions, so if people can give either one or two cans from their pantry, it can go a long way in assisting these families," said Masango.
LHS Leadership Class
Lindbergh's Leadership Class is a class of action, according to Christina Allen, Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher and ASB Advisor.
"It is an elective class with a combination of students including the ASB Officers, Class officers and other students who want to become more involved in the community and school events. Each year this class plans a variety of events," said Allen.
The year's schedule of activities is full, with students putting on events such as Blood Drives; Turkey Basket Giving; Homecoming; "Spirit of Giving" clothing drive; School Spirit and Recognition events; and a Talent Show, with proceeds going to a variety of charities, including the Ronald McDonald House.
With this year's Walk & Knock Food Drive, the intention was two-fold. "One of their goals as a class this year was to make more connections within their community and to make their school more aware of what is happening in their community," said Allen.
Senior Kim Villaflor agreed: "I really hope that through this event, Lindbergh can make a difference in our community and show them that there are people who are willing to help them. Especially during the cold winter season.ā
