The Fairwood Lions Club will observe White Cane Days on Saturday, May 9.
Club members will be accepting cash donations at the south entrance of the Fairwood Safeway from 10am to 3pm, and will also be collecting used eye glasses and hearing aids.
All contributions for White Cane Days will be sent to the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing in support of their SightLife division in Seattle, which provides corneal retrieval, analysis, storage and research to facilitate corneal transplants throughout Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Northern Idaho.
Now in its 38th year, SightLife (Lions Eye Bank) has provided donated corneas free of charge, giving over 35,000 persons the gift of sight. With 2,814 corneas placed for transplant in 2008, SightLife is officially the largest eye bank in the United States.
A contribution of any amount will be greatly appreciated.
Recycle for Sight
The month of May is “Recycle for Sight Month” for Lions Clubs throughout the world. As you do your Spring cleaning, please remember that The Fairwood Lions Club has placed boxes at The Fairwood Library and the Fairwood United Methodist Church for the collection of used eyeglasses and hearing aids throughout the year.
Eyeglasses and hearing aids will be recycled for use by people in undeveloped countries around the world. The Fairwood Lions thank all for these donations.
For more information about the Fairwood Lions Club and our service activities, please call Phil Johnson at 425 227-6315 or Ed Wildeboor at 425 271-8154. We meet at the Golden Peacock on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 6:30pm. Visitors are always welcome.
