Mobile Blood Drive Set for Tomorrow in Fairwood

Fairwood area citizens have an opportunity to "shed some blood" for a good cause tomorrow.
The Puget Sound Blood Center's Mobile Blood Van will be ready for your blood donations on Friday, September 11 from 1-7 pm. The staff will take a brief break from 3:30-4:15 to prepare for the evening crowd.
The Mobile Blood Van will be parked in Fairwood Community United Methodist's parking lot, providing easy access to the van. The Fairwood Greens Homeowner's Association is sponsoring the event, but all healthy individuals beyond the Fairwood Greens boundaries are encouraged to donate.
Puget Sound Blood Center's spokesperson Michael Young said that current blood inventories are "healthy," but he also noted all donations are needed as the Center requires a steady supply of blood for the region.
"Puget Sound Blood Center supplies all the blood to Western Washington. Every day it takes approximately 900 people to donate blood to maintain an operational blood supply for Western Washington," said Young.
Young also said that O- and O+ blood supplies are a little lower than they would like, so they would particularly encourage donors with those two types to donate.
Puget Sound Blood Center is an independent, community-based blood center with a long and unique tradition of blending community volunteerism, medical science and research to improve patients’ lives. Patients with leukemia, cancer, burns, hemophilia and traumatic injuries depend on the breakthrough discoveries made by Blood Center scientists. Internationally recognized as a leader in transfusion medicine, the Blood Center operates the world's largest transfusion service, serves patients in more that 70 hospitals and clinics in 14 Western Washington counties and provides tissue and transplantation support to 185 hospitals across the Northwest.
