Good News from Renton School District

Lindbergh Groups Join for Community Service
Students in Lindbergh High School’s Environmental Club, Key Club, and Skills USA (right) recently spent time helping King County pull ivy from Renton Park. More than 25 students, lead by science teacher Oliver Jones, volunteered for the hard work which also included cutting ivy off more than 20 trees.
Nelson MS Students Raise Funds for Haiti
Nelsen Middle School students in Steve Hayes' class recently completed a fundraiser to aid in the rebuilding of schools in Haiti. Students raised over $920 in “Pennies in the Hall for Haiti” which included stringing an end-to-end line of donated pennies through the hallways, extending outside to the parking lot and around the school’s portables.

Culinary Class Uses Skills for Booster Dinner
Lindbergh High School students in Christina Allen’s Culinary Skills 2 class prepared and served dessert for the school’s annual Boosters Dinner. Students spent two days preparing a variety of food for more than 300 people in attendance.

Each course consists of a seminar and a workshop where students share their writing, receive feedback from the teacher and fellow classmates and discuss issues of narrative and form.

Lindbergh Seniors Receive Kiwanis Scholarships
The Kiwanis Club of Renton has awarded two scholarships to Lindbergh High School students. Teresa Nguyen (l) was awarded a $1,000 scholarship and Pearl Nguyen (r) was awarded a $500 scholarship.
A total of 13 applicants from all three high schools were represented in the scholarship selection process. The two winners were recently presented their scholarships at a Kiwanis Club lunch meeting at the Renton Holiday Inn.
