Offer Great Theatre This Spring

Spring theater season in Kent School District opens this week and ends in May. The high school drama programs are producing four stage classics.
The Kentwood Players are introducing a re-imagining of The Wizard of Oz. The show considers the relationship between Elmira Gultch and Uncle Henry and Auntie Em, and why the Wicked Witch is out to get Dorothy.
Curtain is at 7:00 p.m. and the show runs May 5-8 and 12-15 in the school's performance center. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the door or at brownpapertickets.com.

The drama program at Kentridge raises the curtain on the spring theater season with The Sound of Music. This Rodgers & Hammerstein classic about the Von Trapp family is well-known to audiences. The show continues April 28 - May 1 at 7:00 p.m. with an additional matinee at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $10 for reserved seats, $8 for general admission. Another Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, South Pacific, opens at Kentlake later this month. This musical romance centers on a group of American sailors and nurses stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.
Evening performances are at 7:00 p.m., April 28 - April 30 & May 5-7. Matinee performances start at 2:00 p.m. on May 1 and 8. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online at brownpapertickets.com. All veterans can attend shows for free in appreciation of their service in the armed forces.
Bus Stop, by William Inge, tells the story of a bus load of travelers stranded at a diner in a small Kansas town due to a snow storm. The play gained fame following the 1956 film version starring Marilyn Monroe.
The production is at 7:00 p.m., May 13-14 & 19-21 in the school's performing arts center. Tickets are sold at the door: $8 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens.
